Soumyadeep Mukherjee ci invia questa ripresa dal titolo: “Glowing in Excitement”
L’airglow è quella debole luminescenza che colora di verde il cielo, si tratta di una emissione luminosa dell’atmosfera terrestre.
Ecco le parole dell’autore: “While I visited the pristine dark skies of Ladakh, I captured something for the first time in my life. Me and my friends were so excited when we saw these at the back of our camera! Airglow it is. During our session at Pangong, we came across a strong green airglow and 2 days later, at Hanle, we captured the yellow-orange airglow. Airglow is a photochemical luminescence caused by solar radiation interacting with the atoms and molecules present in the upper atmosphere. Solar radiation mostly interacts with:
1. Sodium (Na) producing yellow-orange (590nm) airglow
2. Hydroxyl (OH) and molecular Oxygen (O2) producing red (650-700nm) and Violet-Blue (380-490nm) airglow
3. Molecular Oxygen (O) producing green (508nm), orange-red (629nm) and red (632nm) airglow.
The image is a collage from two photos captured at Hanle (top) and Pangong (bottom). The second image is annotated with some of the visible constellations.”
